My Origins Story (the short version)
I wasn’t forged in the fires of an ancient volcano, or born on a dark and stormy night. In fact, I came into this world in the middle of a sunny spring afternoon. I’m told there was cake.
But my life hasn’t been all birdsong and beauty. Ever since I suffered a traumatic brain injury I’ve been wrought with mental and physical health problems. They drove me away from regular employment, so in search of something I could do from home I became a freelance writer.
Over the years I worked with many different clients and wrote in a wide variety of niches. I learned more about the business and marketing aspects of writing. I began to see missed opportunities all around me.
I saw local businesses providing excellent products and services, but falling behind their big name competitors due to their smaller scale and budgets.
I feel a strong imperative to work with these types of businesses and help make them overcome the unique challenges they face. They’re the product and service providers that help ease the pain of chronically ill people like me. They’re the ones who truly care about their clients and customers, and they’re the ones who deserve the most sales.
But the deserving don’t always get what they’re due. One thing the brain injury didn’t change about me is my undying sense of fair play. I won’t rest until I see health food stores standing toe to toe with regular grocers, and martial arts studios seeing as much interest as movie theatres.
That’s why I’m studying business and marketing, and taking Udacity’s digital marketing nanodegree. I see it as the fastest way to polish all the skills necessary to bring my clients up to speed against their competitors. My goal is to make local brands as prolific to residents as their competitors are to the nation at large.
If you’re a business owner and you feel like you could do more to market your services in the digital realm, I’m offering free consultations until my course concludes in June 2019. Contact me at alex@alextucker.ca and I’ll be in touch before long.
